About Us

The Midwest CHP Application Center (MAC) was established in March 2001 for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Energy Resources Center (ERC). Mission

The mission of the MAC is to develop technology application knowledge and the educational infrastructure necessary to foster CHP as viable technical and financial energy / environmental option in the Midwest and reduce any perceived risks associated with its implementation.

Goals & Objectives

The One of the specific goals of the MAC when it was established in March 2001 was to support the US DOE CHP Challenge of doubling the installed capacity of CHP in the US by the 2010. The base year established by DOE for the challenge was 1988. To accomplish this goal, the MAC fosters project identification and implementation in the twelve state Midwest Region through:

  • Targeted education
  • Unbiased Information
  • Technical Assistance

The twelve state Midwest Region includes, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Focus

The focus of the MAC is to:

  • Assess the region's opportunities for CHP
  • Manage a "SWAT Team" of technical experts that can be dispatched one a cost-shared basis to develop strategic CHP projects
  • Provide critical interface with state agencies, PUCs, legislatures, EPA, ASHRAE, etc. to move the CHP benefits agenda forward
  • Maintain an installation database for all installations within the region
  • Develop pertinent educational material including regional based case studies, presentation material and workshops
