University of Florida
Completed in 1994, this state-of-the-art facility provides steam and a unique teaching facility for the University of Florida, and electricity for Florida Power customers.
Most equipment critical to the plant's operation is provided in three redundant levels. The control system automatically monitors the performance of the "in-service" level and transfers to one of the "back-up" levels when necessary. This design was implemented to maximize plant reliability. The high level of redundancy is very cost effective because it allows preventive maintenance or repair to be conducted on most plant equipment without the need to shut down.
